Noele’s Application Form ‘Hot Tips’ From The NHS

I recently met with Noelle McKay, NHS Recruitment, to discuss three key areas to consider when making an application: 1) what an employer looks for 2) the application procedure 3) the interview. This week I thought it would be very useful to repeat the application procedure hints and tips. We all have to complete an application form at some time and it can either make or break your chances. This interview should help address some of the key issues into completing a successful application and hopefully help you gain your chosen career.

Heidi's Work With The Wise Group

The last in the series of interview with the Lookahead Project is with Heidi McGregor, former speech therapist who overcame a disability to kick start her career again after having to give up her speech therapy post by re-training to become a Yoga Therapist. Heidi successfully holds Yoga classes in her local community and providing help and support to those in need. Another truly inspirational interview.

On Thursday 12 August 2010 3TFM Community Radio will be celebrating International Vinyl Day. This means that most of our Presenters will be looking out their old 45's and LP's to play on the radio station. We are lucky here on 3TFM as we still have good old fashioned record decks to play with. I can think of a few stations that are totally digital and wont be able to participate in the fun of this day. So tune in on Thursday 12 Aug to see who is the first Presenter to get a record to jump or skip. Only on 3TFM Community Radio.

Another World Record Broken By Don

Over the past year i have featured a number of people on my radio show highlighting their ‘life and careers, so far’ and I have great news regarding one guy and his team achieving a new world record crossing the Atlantic. Don Lennox was part of that team and we at the careers show take great pride in being a part of this historic occasion. Don was a main feature on the show last year highlighting his record breaking achievements and attempts.

Using Martial Arts to Keep Off the Streets

This week we have the third and last of our sports students feature from Kilmarnock College and something a bit different. Colin Cuthbert is an International Karate Champion and his dream is to set up his own Martial Arts business and put something back into the community and hopefully steer more people away from the temptations of the street. Colin says that “ ..if it was not for my martial arts interest, God knows where I would have ended up.” Interested in sports? Why not follow Colin’s life so far and be inspired. As part of the regular features on adults gaining support for employment and education, I dropped into a local Wise Group project called Look Ahead to meet some of the trainees involved in the project. Over the coming weeks, I will be featuring four interviews with the trainees talking about their life and careers so far and how they are overcoming personal difficulties on the path back to possible education and employment. This weeks interview is with Eleanor Chapman, former community centre worker and mother of six Children. Hear Eleanor tell of her life and career so far and how the project helped her overcome some difficulties and hopefully back into helping others in her community. Another truly inspirational interview. By the way, Last weeks interview was well received.

On the 31 July 1964 country music legend Jim Reeves was killed in a plane crash,he was only 40 years old. This saturday which is 31 July it will be the the 46 th anniversary of his death. We here at 3TFM Community Radio are going to be paying tribute to the fantastic legacy of music he left behind.

On Tuesday 3 Aug we will be presenting a Jim Reeves special on the 3TFM country show. The show is being broadcast from 10.00pm till midnight,so if your a Jim Reeves fan be sure to tune in. We will be playing a fantastic collection of all his songs, it was very difficult to make up the playlist for the show, because every record he made was so special, 2 hours is not really long enough to play them all. Part of the show includes Jim himself telling his life story, and that is very interesting to say the least.

So listen in on Tuesday 3 Aug 2010 for our Jim Reeves special 10.00pm till midnight only on 3TFM Community Radio.

Working in the care sector can take on various guises and when I met Niall McShannon, Project Manager and Social Worker of CCI, I thought his role was to provide care facilities for the trainees. How wrong I was as the work they carry out is mainly related to landscaping and woodwork skills. CCI's first project was the Wallace Memorial Garden, off Wellgate, in Lanark. After 7 years, it still looks robust and has bedded into its surroundings well.

Since then they have worked on a myriad of projects, ranging from small tasks to incredibly ambitious projects. All of these have been completed to a commercial standard, using robust designs and materials. They have all had community input in design and maintenance. From the first project onwards, CCI's clients have thrived by doing 'real work'. While few of our participants start with many physical skills, a number have become adept at metalwork, woodwork, slabbing or dyking. Doing very visible and useful work also demystifies clients' conditions to the rest of community. From being seen as passive consumers of services, CCI's clients become providers and promoters of projects that offer tangible local benefits. Many of CCI's clients have suffered very personal forms of exclusion - engaging with local communities as equals builds clients' self-confidence and can transform people's perceptions of them. Check out their website and who knows, you may be hiring the guys for a future job or even buying some of their excellent woodcraft. www.cciweb.org.uk

Taking Netball to a National Level

This week we have the second of our sports students feature And something a bit different. Stephanie McGarrity is an International netball player and hopes one day to coach. But, She also wants to develop her skills into the community encouraging people to be more active and take up a healthier lifestyle.

This weeks interview is with Jeannette Burns former SCI worker and trained in child care. Hear Jeannete tell of her life and career so far and how the project helped her overcome some difficulties and hopefully back into care work. Another truly inspirational interview. By the way, Last weeks interview was well received.
